GYPSY CROCHET SHAWL

Here is a lovely shawl I finished recently..........
It is inspired by my love of the Gypsy, even if
it is probably a slightly romantic ideal I have......

Medieval Man.....FINISHED

Have finally finished Medieval Man after
alot of distractions........

I love the sense of going off on an adventure, out in the
wide open spaces of the Irish landscape......In a time
when places were less touched and there were less
people to destroy and spread across the environment.........

I am sure that I have a slightly romantic view of Medieval
Times and that life would probably have been quite hard
for the majority of the population.........

But having lived on the land on and off (7/8 years) up in
the hills and sometimes in remote places, I still have a desire
for space, quiet and beauty.......Some places were
warm and I was near either a waterhole or looking down
onto the ocean, it was truly paradise......Other places were
isolated deep in the forest and away from normal civilsiation,
but were still unbelievably magical and powerful, even if the
small social life was excessively redneck......I still look at
all these places with fond memories and longing for that
simplicity, of less is more........

Quite often my life seems to be full of a certain amount of
chaos and it is a constant battle to keep the order and peace
both on the outside and the inside.......I long for a place
where things are simple.......

Hence my love of the Romantic Ideals of the Medieval Times
and my love of the Open Space........

Coffee, Craft, Crochet and Friend.....

Just come back from one of my favourite past-times,
coffee, crochet and friend......Off to do more of the above
but at home......

This is my friend Anne who is a great knitter and a great friend..........
Viva La Coffee.....

Medieval Magic Trio

Below are a trilogy that I worked on a little while ago......

This is the wandering Minstrel (or maybe he was a
Troubadore )that brings Music
and Magic to villages across the land and also to the forest.....
His kind of magic inspires people to believe that hope and
Magic do exist in some form or other.....

Here is the Fairy Queen who brings a different king
of Magic, some would call the Magic of Myth,
but others would say she is the essence of Magic
and Fairytale.........

Finally, we have the Knight whose job is to protect the
realm, his castle and his people......An ideal of goodness......

Please excuse the quality of the images, as
at the moment I only have my mobile phone camera......

Medieval Man.....

Here is one of my latest works which is done in watercolours......
Watercolours is a new thing for me, but I am quite enjoying it,
all and all......I chose to paint this viking image because I have
a real love of things in the past.  When I look at this, it is probably
because alot of the now doesn't inspire me as much.....I also like
the idea that maybe in the past things were alot simpler, not always
better in certain aspects but less complicated......Quite often my
images are painted in setting of open landscapes or untouched
nature.  This is because I like the sense of being free......

Almost finished, not particularly happy with the sky......
But slowly getting there......

FEELING BETTER......

Have been feeling a bit down of late with lots of changes
in my life......Sometimes wandering what the hell I am doing
with my life and trying not to get sucked down with it all......
But today has been quite good, as I have ticked off a few
things that needed to get done.....And the most exciting one
was getting the internet to work which has happened after
a very clever technical support person assisted me......After
many hours over 2 days, it was really quite hard not to cry
but I refrained.....
Now I am on the internet, the washing is hung and a few
other things are sorted........

Sunday 15 January 2012

I came across this poem on another site and I just had
to share it.....I don't know what the rules are for
web etiquette, but I have given the website at the bottom
for people who want to find out about this wonderful
poet.......

The Irish Fall

by Josiah J. Eikelboom

We woke to the cawing of crows today
To the warrior's lament
to the Badb's call

We woke to the twilight months ushered in
to the fallow barren fields
to dead days come

We woke to the call of the Otherworld
to the tales of the proud dead
to their songs sung

We woke to the cawing of crows today
and to the swaying of trees
bearing cold fruit
